PUDUCHERRY: With the increasing need for applying psychology in education, a two-day workshop on school psychology for teachers was held at the RMSA resource centre, Vivekananda Higher Secondary School, Villianur on Wednesday.

Two batches of 60 teachers each from middle and high schools are participating in the workshop, the main thrust of which is how to identify students with learning disabilities.

Dr Panch Ramalingam, secretary of InSPA, said the participants of the workshop are being training on how to identify the learning disabilities in children and once they are identified, the teachers would apply appropriate psychological method to improve their skills. In addition, they also addressed the problems of their students and received guidance and proper counselling.

Learning disability is a deficit in a specific area, such as word decoding or arithmetic computation, which is out of line with overall intellectual ability. Claiming that the teaching model was developed in the UT  by InSPA in collaboration with (RMSA), he said the training model will be extended to other states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu.

He informed that workshops to train the teachers on the model will be held in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, on September 29 and 30.

The workshop is held jointly by government of Puducherry Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Indian School Psychology Association (InSPA) with the assistance of  International School Psychology Association (ISPA), USA.
