A total of 111 students from the Department of Psychology joined the greater Illinois State University academic community in sharing their research at the 2015 University Research Symposium Friday, April 10, at the Bone Student Center.
The annual research symposium offers Illinois State graduate and undergraduate students a chance to exhibit their research efforts in front of a large audience in a professional setting. Participation in this event also makes an excellent addition to any résumé or graduate school application.
“While most people probably think of psychology as an applied field, both theory and practice are based on research,” said Cooper Cutting, undergraduate coordinator and associate chair of the Department of Psychology. “Our department’s curriculum, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, is designed with this in mind and places a large emphasis on student involvement in psychological research.
“In addition to doing research in their courses, many students are engaged outside of their classrooms in collaborative research projects with our psychology faculty,” Cutting said. “The ISU research symposia provide these students with a chance to showcase their research and present it to the ISU community.”
