The Psychology Speaker Series continues today with “Art Therapy and the Expressive Arts: Knowing Yourself Through Your Creative Side,” presented by Andrea Baier-Petiet.

Petiet is a practitioner and theorist of art therapy, and has been counseling in varying fields, from parenting support to addiction recovery for over 25 years now. She is employed at the Psychology Associates of Grand Rapids, with a master’s degree in social work.

Frank Conner, Head of the Psychology Department at GRCC, runs the series.

“What is art therapy, and what are the expressive arts?” Conner said when asked what Petiet will be speaking about. “She’s actually going to engage the students in some activities so they get a sense of what it is.”

Students interested in pursuing a career in art therapy will learn what it takes, have the experience of speaking to professional in person, and view some examples of her client’s artwork.

The presentation will be held today from 1-2:30 p.m., in room 168 of the Applied Technology Center.
