Psychology report says Davis mom competent to stand trial in daughter’s death – Merced Sun

A woman accused of drowning her 5-year-old daughter before putting the girl in the trunk of her car is competent to stand trial, according to a psychologist’s report.

A preliminary hearing in the murder trial of Aquelin Talamantes of Davis has been scheduled for Jan. 10.

The psychologist’s report was ordered after Talamantes’ public defender raised questions about her client’s mental competence.

Tatianna Garcia, 5, was pulled from the trunk of her mother’s car in September after a family member called authorities with concerns about the girl’s well-being. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Coroner’s officials later determined she had been drowned.
