The University of Georgia Department of Psychology, created their own Your Pie pizza, the Psy Pie, to raise funds for the semester.

Allen French, a part-owner of the Your Pie franchise, named the pizza after the toppings themselves. The pepperoni, sausage and yellow peppers that cover the cheesy crust cleverly spell out the word “Psy.”

Your Pie debuted the specialty pizza Jan. 14, and it is available at all three Athens locations. Ten percent of the monetary funds from Psy Pie purchases go towards the Department of Psychology.

“We know we’re not going to rebuild the building based on Psy Pie, but we might get a little money and they might get a little business,” department head Keith Campbell said. “For us, it’s just a fun way to reach out the community and get our name out there.”

There are no concrete plans on what the money raised from Psy Pie fundraiser will benefit.

Last semester, the department put another twist on fundraising when they partnered with Jittery Joe’s to brand their own blend of coffee, the Freudian Drip. They are still selling the coffee online and at the Jittery Joe’s Coffee Roasting Co. on East Broad Street.

“In both cases, Jittery Joe’s and Your Pie are local companies that serve the students and the faculty,” Campbell said. “It’s just fun good will, I think.”

At the downtown Your Pie location, a small sign is posted by the cashier to advertise the Psy Pie.

“We’ve made a couple of them, but the sign has only been up for a week or so,” general manager Rob Pesavento said, as he lightly sprinkled cheese over a fresh slab of dough.

Word about the pizza has not gained much circulation among UGA students, but when told about it, some gained interest.

“I haven’t heard of it, but I love Your Pie,” said Elly Offutt, a junior mathematics major from Atlanta. “When I lived off Milledge, my roommate and I used to scooter to the Five Points Your Pie for their Tuesday special. I will definitely be hitting this up, especially since it’s for the University.”

Campbell said he has not tasted the pizza yet either, but he is going to take his kids to try it soon.
