Psychology Expert to Discuss “The Pursuit of Happiness” at Lone Star College …

CONROE, TX (January 29, 2014) – Social psychologist Dr. David Myers will discuss “The Pursuit of Happiness: Who is Happy and Why” at Lone Star College-Montgomery on Wednesday, February 12, at 12 p.m., in the Recital Hall, located in the college's Music Hall (Building H). The event is sponsored by the college’s Psychology Club and Psi Beta, the college’s psychology honor society. The event is free and refreshments will be provided at a post-presentation reception from 1-1:30 p.m.

The presentation, which is based on Myers’ book “The Pursuit of Happiness: Discovering the Pathway to Fulfillment, Well-Being, and Enduring Personal Joy” (William Morrow Paperbacks, 1993), will cover some of the popular myths on the subject and present specific techniques for finding true joy in living.

According to his website, Myers says that “happiness, like cholesterol level, is a genetically influenced trait. Yet, as cholesterol is also influenced by diet and exercise, so our happiness is to some extent under our personal control.” With wit and wisdom, Myers will offer some research-based suggestions for improving mood and overall satisfaction in life.

The psychology department on campus encourages and inspires both students and community members each semester by securing nationally-recognized scholars, authors, or leaders in the psychology field, such as Myers, to present on campus.

Myers is currently a psychology professor at Hope College in Michigan. His research and writings have earned him the prestigious Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. In addition, his articles have appeared in dozens of scientific periodicals, textbooks, and general public magazines.
