Promoting & Protecting Mental Health

LAKE FOREST – What can be done to promote and protect the mental health of young adults in our community?

This question will be the focus of a program co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area and CROYA on January 28, 2016. Dr. Mark Reinecke, a psychologist from Northwestern University, will discuss the range of mental health issues that affect our teens and young adults and what help is provided by the Affordable Care Act. Under the Act, mental health treatment receives the same insurance coverage as physical problems.

The event will take place Thursday evening January 28, 2016 at CROYA, 400 Hastings Road in Lake Forest beginning at 7pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Dr. Mark Reinecke, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He also serves as Chief Psychologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Reinecke has received recognition for his work on the assessment and treatment of depression and suicide among children and adolescents. He is a Distinguished Fellow and former president of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP0 in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.

Dr. Reinecke was a principal investigator on the Treatment of Adolescents with Depression Study (TADS). He has lectured internationally and has served as a visiting professor at institutions in Europe and Asia. Widely published, Dr. Reinecke has published approximately 100 papers and chapters, and has authored or edited seven books, including Cognitive Therapy Across the Lifespan, Comparative Treatments of Depression, and Cognitive Therapy With Children and Adolescents.

Dr. Steven R. Potsic, M.D., M.P.H., FACPM, will moderate the program. Dr. Potsic served as the Regional Health Administrator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He was the Principal U.S. Public Health Service official in Region V with over 50 million residents (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota,Ohio and Wisconsin), represented the Assistant Secretary for Health and the Surgeon General on matters of health and science, was in charge of the federal public health programs including emergency planning/response and bioterrorism, and had top level security clearance. In that role, he also was involved in the Affordable Care Act and has given a number of factual presentations on its policy provisions.

Dr. Potsic is an Illinois licensed Physician with a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan, is clinically trained in Pediatrics and is Board Certified in Preventative Medicine.
