A SOUTH Australian psychologist has designed a program to help take the stress out of school for nine-to-13-year-olds.

Optimistic Kids founder Simon Andrews has developed a 10-week program teaching students to be more resilient and meet challenges.

"If we can have children who can problem solve, rather than walk up to the teacher's desk when they have a problem, learning will be much more time-effective and then teaching can be more effective," he said.

Mr Andrews runs two-day workshops instructing teachers how to lead the program in the classroom.

Kidman Park Primary School ran the program for its Year 4, 5 and 6 students last year.

Wellbeing co-ordinator Peter Georgeopoulos said the school was running the program again.

"It uses real-life scenarios and video clips the children could relate to," he said.

Year 6 student Nathan said the program was really fun, especially watching the clips and completing worksheets.

"It's helped us with homework and to be stress-free," he said.
