Psychologists say they have evidence of tool use by greater vasa parrots (Coracopsis vasa). They determined this by studying ten captive parrots and seeing that the birds adopt a novel tool-using technique to acquire calcium from seashells. They also noted active sharing of tools among themselves.  The birds used small pebbles or date pits to grind calcium powder from the shells or to break off small pieces of shell to ingest. Ik schrijf vanuit de Food-valley, een prachtig gebied gelegen aan de randen van Utrecht en Gelderland, waarin de Wageningen Universiteit (specialisatie op het gebied van voeding en voedselproductie) staat. Toepasselijker kan het niet. Food en online: Krijn Vermeulen schrijft er over in het vorige nummer. Hij noemt direct twee redenen waarom de online verkoop nog maar twee procent is in de food: de supermarktdichtheid is hoog en we hebben de consument zo opgevoed.
