Earlier, a study replicated about 100 past psychology studies to find out how many of them can provide the original results. The study concluded that results of just 36% studies could be duplicated. Due to the study's results, psychology field sustained a damaging blow.
After the study was published by the journal Science, a number of people started giving their opinions. To surprise, many psychologists support the new study and said that authors, who conducted the new study, were researchers, and not critics. According to them, the researchers did what they should do.
Alan Kraut, the executive director of the Association for Psychological Science whose one journal was analyzed in the new study, said, "It's like we've come clean. This kind of correction is something that has to happen across science, and I'm proud that psychology is leading the charge on this".
The statement given by the psychologists showed that there is a culture change in the psychology field. Some years ago, researchers were used to edit their own studies. According to the psychologists, they are taking the new study as a positive feedback. The study's findings came as no surprise to them, they said.
Jelte Wicherts from the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands said many previous studies' results are too good to be true. Today's study culture in interesting, Wicherts added. Wicherts has been working with some the young researchers who share their data on request without considering any regulation.
