Occupation: Hughes holds the Rev. Martin A. Hehir Endowed Chair for Scholarly Excellence at Duquesne University. She is chairwoman of Duquesne's department of counseling, psychology and special education in the School of Education.

Background: Hughes' areas of expertise include bullying and child violence, childhood emotional disturbances and conduct problems. She has worked in a variety of roles in juvenile justice settings. In 2009, she received the President's Award for Outstanding Service to Children from the National Association of School Psychologists.

Education: Bachelor's degree and doctorate in psychology from Arizona State University and a master's degree in clinical psychology from St. Mary's University in Texas.
