New LifeBridge Book Ties Academic Disciplines to Leadership Success

In a widely heralded new book, “The Ten Disciplines of Leadership,” authors Richard A. Jacobs and Charles B. Dygert contend that the ability to achieve is not the result of mastering one particular discipline. Rather, it is the art of understanding, applying, and balancing several skill sets and knowledge.

For example, the book addresses the use of Psychology in dealing with difficult team members, Sociology in organizational structure, Philosophy (personal) incorporated in a business plan, and Geography as it relates to markets. In addition it focuses on History in learning from the past, Political Science in working with those who have differing agendas, Economics in having the resources in carrying out the plan, Anthropology in addressing organizational habits, Mathematics in “keeping score,” and Communications, both internally and externally.

The authors have subtitled the book, “The Ultimate Playbook of Success,” with the objective of helping train the thoughts of the leader to quickly assess each situation and then go through the playbook of the disciplines for solid solutions to pressing problems.

Business leaders are praising this approach to leadership. Says Karen Buchwald Wright, President/CEO of the Ariel Corporation, “The Ten Disciplines applies the philosophical ideals of liberal arts education to the unique challenges facing every leader and CEO. Easy to dip into for a quick solution!” Denny Patterson, President/owner of BiCon Services, Inc., adds, “Leaders need a playbook to guide them in making effective decisions. This book is one of the best.” And noted Vistage Speaker Pat Murray states, “The scope and approach is unique...a real contribution to the field.”

Richard A. Jacobs. P.E., is a former CEO who has led business turnarounds and cultural transformations for many companies. Jacobs now shares his insights as a mentor, teacher, and co-author of Managing for Success and Creating a Culture of Success. Jacobs is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and received his M.S. from Lehigh University. Charles B. Dygert. Ph.D., began his career as a Tool Die Maker for General Motors. He earned his B.A., M.A., and doctorate from The Ohio State University, and served on its faculty for 19 years. A noted speaker, he has made presentations to over 2,500 businesses and organizations.

Say the authors, “Our objective is to present the what, when, where, why, and how of business and personal success.”
