New 4-year BS programmes approved for various colleges

Tuesday, June 17, 2014 - Islamabad—Capital Administration Development Division (CADD) has approved 4-year BS programmes in various colleges of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). The BS programmes range from BS Mathematics, Applied Psychology, English, Textile Fashion Designing and others.

According to a source in the CADD, last week principals of various colleges received a letter from CADD that informed about 12 BS-programmes have been approved for the session 2014-15. Around eleven colleges have been selected for these programmes. Islamabad Model Postgraduate college for Girls F-7/2, is on the top with 5 BS programmes namely BS Economics, Islamic studies, Textile Fashion Designing, Applied Psychology and Finance.

Similarly, Islamabad Model Postgraduate College H-8 is directed to start BS programme in Geography while BCom (Honors) is approved for Islamabad Model Postgraduate Commerce College H-8/4. likewise, Islamabad college for Girls(ICG), F-6/2 will start BS in English, Applied Psychology and computer science. Islamabad Model Postgraduate College for Girls G-10/4 will also start BS in Mathematics while Islamabad Model College for Girls, F-6/2 will start BS in Physics.

Islamabad Model college for Boys H-9 and Islamabad College for Boys (ICB) G-6/3 will be opening classes in BS in Mathematics while BS in Applied Psychology is approved for Islamabad Model College for Girls F-10/2. Similarly Islamabad Model College for Boys will launch BS in Computer Sciences and BS in English.

Last but not least two BS programmes i.e. BBA and B.Com(honors) are approved for Commerce College for Girls F-10/3. The fee structure is also approved. For the subjects where laboratory work is involved the fee will be Rs20,000 in the first semester while it will be Rs13,000 for subsequent semesters.

For the subjects where no labs work is involved the fee will be Rs17,000 and Rs10,000 for subsequent semesters respectively. Intake capacity for each subject will be 40 students. The classes will start from September this year for the academic session 2014-15, subject to completion of affiliation from Quid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.

Federal Government College Teachers Association has applauded the CADD decision. According to President FGCTA Professor Sagheer Ahmed Mirani this will improve the education standards and attract the students who leave the public sector colleges and join private colleges in order to match their qualification with the job market. The students belonging to poor segment of the society will also get quality education at a lower cost.
