Neon Trees talks new album 'Pop Psychology' and New York concerts Special

In addition to Campbell, the group is made up of lead singer Tyler Glenn, Christopher Allen on guitar and vocals, as well as Elaine Bradley on drums and vocals. Their smash single "Everybody Talks" reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, as well as No. 1 on the adult pop songs charts and it was subsequently certified double-platinum.

Their newest 10-track CD Pop Psychology was released on April 22. "We were looking at 10 songs that were all killer and no filler. We wanted to have some good pop songs and an album that stands on its own two feet that people want to jam again," he said.

Campbell shared that during the record-making process, front-man Tyler was going through a lot of therapy. He was analyzing what was up with himself and analyzing his life, especially trying to find a relationship in this digital age. It was also about him dealing with his sexuality and singing openly about it," he said. "Tyler has always been good at leaving pronouns in a way that both guys and girls can enjoy the music. We have always been fans of classic pop songs."

He added, "It's a great record and for me, the album is about the psychology of pop music.

The bassist praised their lead single "Sleeping with a Friend" as a "great song." "We wanted to throw a little curve-ball and show that we have some variety," he said. "When I first heard the demo of the song, I told them to master it since it was so freaking good, and it has that soulful feel to it and I loved it."

He listed the mellow tune "Voices in the Halls" as his favorite track on the CD. "It has a different vibe that radiates from the other songs and it has a balladesque feel to it," he said. "It reminds me of growing up in Vegas, where people loved bands like that. Hearing that song on our album takes me to a place to reminisce a little bit."

This week they played a show at New York's iHeartRadio Theater. "That was great and a lead-off show to celebrate the release. We were able to stream part of that show on the radio and it was broadcasted live on the Internet. It was good to see the reaction for some of the new songs and play them in front of people that are some of our die-hard fans," he said.

Speaking of New York, the group will be back on July 7, to play a show at Central Park's Summerstage. "It's going to be really good since it is good energy playing in the park. We are going to have a special guest that we are finalizing as well. We have some fun things in store," he said.
