Narcissistic power ends soon

BIGHEADED extroverts are more likely to make it to the top but unlikely to stay there for long, according to psychologists.

Narcissists can go far in business, but too much of it can backfire once they get to a position of power, researchers told the journal Personnel Psychology.

Professor Emily Grijalva of the University of Illinois said modern-day narcissists had “an exaggerated sense of their own self-importance, an exaggerated need for others’ admiration and a lack of empathy”.

“And in the long term, they’re not very good at maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with others,” she said.

“As they become more powerful, the more negative aspects of narcissism emerge.” These included “being exploitative, arrogant and even tyrannical”.
