My eyes are hypnotic —Busayo Adeyeye

Busayo Esther Adeyeye, a graduate of Psychology from Lagos State University, gave up a lucrative job in the banking industry to follow her passion, which is acting. Since she joined Nollywood in April this year, this beautiful lady has been making her mark as an actress and producer. In this interview with TAYO GESINDE, the former staff of ECOBANK speaks on her career, why she abandoned banking, the qualities she wants in a man and her fashion preferences. Excerpts:

Growing up
I grew up in a strict but loving Christian home. I was particularly close to my father. I believe I got the flair for entertainment from him. I started my schooling at Woodland Nursery and Primary School, Shasha, Egbeda, Lagos. I later attended Home-Science Association Secondary School, Alakuko Sango ota, Ogun State, for my junior and senior secondary school education. I then proceeded to the University of Lagos, Akoka, where I majored in Psychology and attained my B.sc. I served in Ebonyi State, where apart from my NYSC certificate, I bagged  a certificate of excellence and also received a commendation/appreciation letter as well as a letter of recommendation.

Foray into acting
I have always loved entertainment in any form. While growing up, you will always find me singing or playing a role.  I started out with music, then acting in church. When I got into the university, I started getting some roles but I needed to focus on my schooling first. My mum had always wanted me to be in the corporate world so, I tried to please her. I worked for two years and finally got the go-ahead from my parents to go fully into acting. I joined the industry proper in April this year. So far, I have featured in  movies like Ojiji Oga, Olofin-Tooto , Oko-Longe, Ruth Abokoku, Ife ati Etan, Ija Ojo kan, Ina Abe, Agbelebu, Akanni Oloju Ina, Aparo, Ohun ton dan. But Ruth Abokoku was the most interesting and challenging.  She was a character totally crazy and aggressive. The challenge I faced when I started was acceptance but  I surmounted that pretty quickly, basically because I'm very good at what I do. One reason I didn’t face sexual harassment was because I didn't rush into the industry. I took my time. And when I was ready, I started with my own production. So what I get is respect and not harassment.

Philosophy of life
Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well.

Description of self
I'm easy going and very friendly. I am also extremely hardworking and focused but when I want to play, I play hard.

Definition of style
As a woman, my style is sexy but classy. I don't follow fashion trends, but I'm always on the lookout for  styles that flatter my face  and body structure, since my sense of style is sexy but classy . You will always see that even when I'm just in casual wear, going to the market, dinner party, and salon or just simply relaxing at home.  So, my innate sense of style determines my mode of dressing.

Beauty regimen
I can't go to bed without having my bath. I believe that's the best beauty treatment you can give to your skin. Never go to bed with make-up on.  I exfoliate once a week and try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.  And oh yes!  I use Shea butter in everything. For my hair, skin, lips, you name it. I even mix it with my cream and soap.

Favourite designers
Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Fabiana filippi.

Favourite perfumes
Dior, J’adore, Angel by Thierry Mugler, Dolce and Gabbana, Creed and Tom Ford.

Favourite colours
Fiery red.  I have always associated red with passion, power, courage and confidence. So I'm drawn to the colour. I'll pick a red shoe any day, any time.  And whenever I wear red, I feel even more sexy and confident

Choice of accessories
Honestly , I'm not a lover of accessories, I feel I'm already too flashy to be using accessories. That being said, I wear them during movie shoot if the character I'm playing requires that.  But if I'm to choose, I'll go for rings, bogus rings in gold and red design and nothing more. I love high heels, in red colour of course. I hardly use hand bags but you will often see me with clutch purse.

Accessory I can't do without when going out
My phone, if a phone can be classed as accessory. But on a serious note, that would be my purse.

Most expensive item in my wardrobe
My Giuseppe Zanotti crystal shoes. I bought it for $2,550

Opinion on toning
Well, a good toning cream is a skin care product that is supposed to increase the skin elasticity, smoothen the skin and help define the body shape.  It is not meant to lighten or make anybody fairer. It is meant to keep your skin clear and firm. So I highly recommend it . Bleaching? Goodness no! That is the worst evil you can do to your skin. And even health, skin cancer.

Opinion on cosmetic surgery
Well, if you have the money and it will make you happy, by all means go for it. I, for one, will look into that when I'm done having kids.

Opinion on provocative dressing
I don't see any point in dressing provocatively unless it is for one’s husband when in the privacy of one’s bedroom.  That is when it is something worth doing.

 Special treat
I'll go for facials and massage. Then, get a new hairdo, manicure, pedicure, after which I will go home, relax with a glass of red wine and watch musicals.

Keeping fit
I'm a vegetarian and I love to walk with my dog. That keeps me in shape

What I won’t be caught dead wearing
Can't think of anything except you won't catch me wearing anything unflattering or trashy.

My hair and nails
I'm big on natural hair but I wear wigs a lot for versatility in movies. However, I keep my natural hair in cornrows under my wig. I don't fix nails because I like them clipped short and well buffed.

Tattoo or piercing
Tattoo, somewhere I can hide if I want to.

Favourite pastime
I love reading, singing, dancing and cooking.

Greatest physical asset
My eyes. I've been told that they are hypnotic.

Coping with advances from male fans
Same way I coped with male advances before I got into acting. I take it in my stride, smile and say thank you.

Marital status
I'm single but will tie the knot pretty soon.  I want a man who can be like a father, brother, friend and lover. If he cannot protect, provide and profess his love for me, then he is not my man.

 Likes and dislikes
I like peaceful situations, happy and confident people and children. I like every good thing of life.

I dislike confusion, deceit, violence and evil in any form.

Favourite holiday spot
Abu Dhabi.

Role I can’t act
None, except acting nude, of course.  I can imagine the shock waves it would send out to my loved ones.

Shopping
I love to shop for my fashion items in Dubai.

Advice to women on how to stay young and beautiful
Drink lots of water daily, eat loads of fruits and vegetables.  Exercise regularly and try to always have your bath before going to bed. Also, please stay out of the sun but if you can't, get an umbrella!

To my fans
My advice is to always strive to be the best in anything you do. And to be the best, you must have a character. So get up and show the world that character.
