The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee educational psychology program is one of three in the U.S. to win a new award from the American Psychological Association (APA).

The Bersoff Presidential Award to Multicultural Programs is designed to honor graduate programs and departments for successfully recruiting and graduating students who are U.S.-born ethnic minorities, as well as residents born outside the U.S. in regions such as the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America.

"A core part of our mission has always been building multicultural competence and recruiting a diverse and international student body, both in counseling and school psychology," said Nadya Fouad, UWM Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Educational Psychology. The department is part of the School of Education.

The award will be presented at the APA's 2013 annual convention on August 3rd in Honolulu.
