Morality profile: What would you do for a million dollars?

I am currently having fun building my very own morality profile…

Should you become inspired to do likewise, you may do so by visiting YourMorals.Org

From their website:

“We are a group of professors and graduate students in social psychology at the University of Virginia, The University of California (Irvine), and the University of Southern California”.

“Our goal is to understand the way our “moral minds” work.
Why do people disagree so passionately about what is right? Why, in particular, is there such hostility and incomprehension between members of different political parties”?

So far I’ve answered two questionnaires, – the Moral Foundations Questionnaire, –  about why you care about some virtues and issues more than others, and the Sacredness Survey, – about What would you do for a million dollars ?

Actually, I also tested my knowledge, but being a semi-ignorant Dane, results were not impressive, so I’ll skip that one, and what has it got to do with morality anyway ?

On second thoughts: probably a lot…

The Sacredness Survey, – “for which amount of money would you be willing to do any of the following”, – (e.g. Give up one year of your life (you’d die in exactly the same way, just one year earlier),   was most amusing, and you could learn a thing or two about yourself…

However, apart from the fun of it, my main motivation for building this profile is to discover to which extent it corresponds with either a Liberal  or a Conservative profile.

Thing is, I often feel more in tune with (neo)Conservatives than with Liberals, certainly when it comes to Freedom of Speech, but also on attitudes towards Israel / Middle East, view of postmodernism, moral relativism, to name a few areas. It is rather paradoxical, and it is a paradox that fascinates me a great deal…

In order for you to understand just how big this paradox is, consider this: I see myself as a Social Liberal, but at the same time I am deeply contemptuous of this same political grouping, mainly because of their We-are-better-than-youattitude, – morally better/above, smarter, etc. – I am not necessarily implying that Social Liberals are not morally superior, – let’s just say we are at odds on certain issues, – unfortunately, rather important issues…

Ok, – I don’t mean to discuss this paradox at length here, – let’s look instead at my profile: Green: Me;   Blue: Liberals;   Red: Conservatives

Quite clearly, I am VERY much in tune with the Liberal profile.

For a detailed understanding, you’ll have to take the test yourself, but to give you an idea, here are some of the questions that determine your “harm”-score:
