Millbury, Sutton natives win WSU academic… – Millbury

WORCESTER - Three students from Millbury and Sutton have received academic awards from Worcester State University and were honored last month at the 2015 Academic Achievement Awards ceremony at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

Each year, the University honors and rewards the highest ranking students in each of the academic disciplines, as well as those who have received special recognition awards. Locals honored include:

Jennifer C. Jackson, of Sutton, who recently graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in psychology, received the Dr. Lawrence A. Averill Award in Psychology. The award, which is presented to a senior majoring in psychology, was endowed by a former student of professor of psychology Dr. Lawrence A. Averill to honor his memory.

Peter L’Esperance, of Millbury, received the Dr. Dorothy A. Escribano Award. The award is presented to a full-time student with a major or minor in Spanish. The student must be a non-traditional sophomore or a junior with a minimum GPA of 2.7 and has demonstrated financial need. He or she must have participated in community and/or extracurricular activities, and demonstrated outstanding academic improvement.

Julie A. Frankian, of Millbury, who recently graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in health education, received the Community Service Award. The award is presented to a student who is active in the promotion of communications within the greater WSU community
