‘Mental Issues, a Matter of Concern Today’

Mental issues concerning children and women are on a drastic rise today. With the current environmental and societal pressure on children, the cases of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive disorder) and ADHD (Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are increasing and need to be addressed in the early stages, said Preethi Krishnan, professor and head of department of Clinical Psychology, SRM, at the national conference for clinical psychologists held in the city.

The Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists (IACP) organised its 40th National Annual Conference on ‘Clinical Psychology at Cross Roads’ from February 28 to March 2 at the SRM University. The conference explored the advancements in neurosciences and conducted workshops on various issues like OCD, drug dependence, etc. Subjects related to women and children and mental issues were also addressed specifically.

Nearly 300 to 400 doctors from across the country participated in this three-day conference and presented research papers on advance level treatments and global understanding. Students pursuing Clinical Psychology also participated and presented 150 papers on a number of issues.
