Making New Years Resolutions

BUTTE -

It's that time of year again. Only a few days left to lock in those New Years resolutions for those of us who make them.

Losing weight was the number one New Years resolution this year according to a 2014 study from the Scranton University Journal of Clinical Psychology. Getting organized, spending less and saving more, enjoying life to the fullest and staying fit and healthy made up the top five resolutions.

Butte resident Farryn Lobb said, "I usually make a resolution about what I'm struggling most in that year and this year it's probably school drama and try to stay away from that."

So, what other changes are in store for the upcoming 2015?

"I kind of want to spend more time with my dad," added Lobb.

"Maybe drop as much pop as I drink, I don't know that's about the only thing I can think of," said another Butte resident Hallie Ann Brancamp.

"I think my resolution would probably be this year to keep my positive attitude," said another Butte resident, Veronica Calcaterra.

Making resolutions is one thing but keeping them all year long is another story. "I'm usually pretty good at it. It kind of matters what the resolution I made, like if it's something with the drama thing I'm probably going to do pretty good on but weight loss and stuff no," said Lobb.

Research shows as the year goes on the harder it gets to maintain those resolutions. 75% of folks can stay strong during the first week but the success rate drops with each passing month. By the end of the year only 8% of resolutions will be completed.

Then of course, there are the people who don't even bother to make a resolution such as Butte resident Bill Pentland who said, “I don't make New Years resolutions because I try to be a better person all year long."

Almost 40% of people surveyed say they never make resolutions, almost as much as the 45% of Americans who do.

Studies show the most successful types of resolutions are self-improvement and education goals, along with weight, money and relationship related resolutions.

Below is a list of the top 10 resolutions made for 2014:
