(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., --

Someone in the Midlands became a multi-millionaire overnight and while many people would see that as a dream come true, one local financial adviser says that blessing can become a curse in the blink of an eye.

Kevin Skipper has spent years studying human behavior and the psychology of money and even counseled clients who've won large amounts of money before. Skipper says it often comes with a psychological change some don't anticipate.

According to Skipper that can including feelings of being overwhelmed by their new found fortune and even isolation as they try to  weed out those who are now trying to be close to them because of it. Others can also display paranoia and feelings of suspicion.

Skipper says we've heard about how to protect those winnings, but he says one of the things people also need to protect is their state of mind.

Skipper suggests you find an and adviser who can help keep you grounded so you don't lose perspective on what's important. Also, keep close those who were your true friends before you had money, and most importantly until you have had the chance to absorb the financial and emotional change you've been catapulted into, stay quiet about your jackpot.
