Local psychologist discusses first day of school anxiety

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Going back to school can create a lot of anxiety for kids and parents but it doesn't have to be that way.

Psychology Associates Psychologist Frank Froman says some might feel separation anxiety the first few days of school.  Froman says separation from parents can be scary for young children, but there are things parents can do to make it easier.

"Introduce your child to the teacher when you drop your child off the first day," Froman said. "Make sure there's a little bit of a bond that's already started.    Teachers know very well how to handle most of these situations when kids get anxious."

Froman says it's not just young kids who experience anxiety, it's not unusual to see teens experiencing the same thing.
