LIU Brooklyn Faculty Designated President-Elect of the NY Association of School Psychologists

Andrew Livanis, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Counseling School Psychology, in the School of Education at LIU Brooklyn, was elected president-elect of the New York Association of School Psychologists (NYASP). NYASP represents school psychologists throughout New York and its mission is to serve children, their families, and the school community by promoting psychological well-being, excellence in education, and sensitivity to diversity through best practices in school psychology.

Dr. Livanis has been involved with NYASP for nine years and has served as its Brooklyn representative, and later as director of public relations and social media. In addition, he has represented NYASP in state and national lobbying efforts to ensure appropriate mental health care for children and funding for schools. In these various positions, he has worked hard to involve LIU students in NYASP as official student representatives, as well as presenters at various conferences.

“It is truly an honor to have been elected as president-elect and I am proud of the work that the association does for the children of New York,” said Livanis. “I am very excited about the opportunities that the students in our school psychology program will have to interact with leaders in the field through the NYASP.”

Dr. Livanis will serve two years as president-elect beginning in August 2014, after which his tenure as president will begin in 2016.
