Learn about the 'quirky brain'
Central Wyoming College psychology professor Jewel Dirks, who did a research project on the "Quirky Brain," shares some of her findings during the academic colloquium at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, in room 171 of the Main Hall Classroom Wing.
Dirks noted the brain is capable of functioning in unusual ways. "We'll explore agnosias--those strange disorders that occur when one tiny part of the brain doesn't bind with the whole," she said, adding she plans to answer some other questions about the brain.
CWC equine classes starting
The Central Wyoming College Lander Center is offering a pair of equine-related clinics at the CWC Equine Center in Riverton.
Instructor Don Harrington is teaching Basic Horsemanship on April 14-15 and Ranch Roping on April 21-22. Both courses run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Basic horsemanship is geared toward beginning and intermediate riders, providing an introduction to riding with leg and body aides. Harrington covers proper reining techniques and students will learn exercise skills that increase the flexibility in their horses.
The Ranch Roping clinic provides intermediate riders an introduction to low-stress cattle handling practices.
The fee for the basic horsemanship course is $75 and the roping class is $100. Participants are asked to bring their horses and rope.

Become an outdoors woman at camp
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is reminding women that the application deadline for the "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" camp is April 15.
Becoming an Outdoors Woman is an outdoor skills program offered by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department each summer.
The camp will be June 15-17 at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp outside of Dubois. Activities at the weekend long camp are designed to introduce women to a variety of outdoor pursuits they can enjoy in Wyoming's great outdoors from hunting and shooting to fly fishing, canoeing or wildlife photography.
Applications must be received by the Game and Fish by 5 p.m. on April 15. Faxes and e-mails will not be accepted. The three-day event costs $150, which includes all meals, lodging and equipment.
