Knot mantra: Psychology pips astrology | Jaipur NYOOOZ

JAIPUR: Astrology is passe for young couples who are on the verge of tying the knot. Now, more people are turning to psychologists to know how they score on the compatibility chart. Moving away from the centuries-old tradition of `kundli` (chart of planetary position on the basis of birth) matching to solemnize weddings, they are banking more on psychological evaluation.

Predictions through kundlis are made by comparing the planetary positions of probable couples, while psychological tests determine a couple`s compatibility on the basis of nature, habits and responses to different situations. The planetary positions are determinedon the basis of date of birth. Thirty-five-year-old Kewal Shyam (name changed), a scientist in a pharmaceutical company, received a proposal from 30-year-old Neelam Raj (name changed), a doctor based in Mumbai three months ago.

After a few meetings, they conclude that they share common views on some subjects while disagree on others. Their families matched the kundlis which showed positive results. However, the two were still apprehensive as difference of opinion on certain subjects bothered them.

Neelam`s relative suggested that she share Kewal`s personality attributes with a psychologist to assess his personality. "I found the idea interesting and shared it with Kewal. We decided to meet a psychologist as it would finally help us in taking a decision," said Neelam.

The psychologist prepared a set of questionnaire seeking information in direct and indirect manner on hobbies, nature, work profile, family background, etc. He recorded their time-bound reactions in similar situations separately. The results were interesting which showed that they both are compulsive, tolerant and share same degree of emotional quotient.
