Funeral services were held Thursday, July 11 at the West Minot Church of God in Minot for Dr. James Brandt, 83, of Minot, who died Sunday, July 7 at home.

Burial was at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot.

Jim was born November 12, 1929 in Cleveland, Tenn., a son of Max and Edrie (Bowen) Brandt. In 1949 he graduated from Willow City High School. He then attended Northwest Bible College, where he later taught. He received an Associate of Art degree from Lee College in Tennessee, a Bachelor of Science degree from Minot State College, and a PhD and Master from Iowa State University. At MSU he was a psychology professor, a dean of students, and head of the Counseling Center. He was also a Staff Psychologist at Medical Arts Clinic, St. Joseph's Hospital and Trinity Hospital; a consultant for REM of North Dakota, Inc., Northern Plains Special Ed., Minne-Tohe Health Clinic in New Town and Little Shield at Belcourt; a licensed minister; he worked with Unimed and at Psychiatric Services in the Arrowhead Shopping Cente%r for many years; and he taught workshops at the Minot Air Force Base. In 1981 he received the Minot Sertoma Club's Service to Mankind Award. On August 18, 1973 he married Roberta Joyce Short in Warren, Mich.

Jim was a member of the West Minot Church of God, the American Psychological Association, the North Dakota Personnel Association, the North Dakota Psychological Association, the American Association of Counseling and Development, and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies.

He is survived by his wife; son, Dr. Jerel Brandt, Michigan; three grandchildren; sisters, Darlene Fred and Maxine James, of Minot; brothers, Ralph, of Minot; Ted, of Cleveland, Tenn.; Brother-in-law, John Juhala; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, James Fred; and sister, Donna Juhala.
