Jacksonville native Sarah Buck, associate professor of health, physical education and recreation at Chicago State University, will receive the 2015 Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology Excellence in Reviewing award during the conference of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity in June in Montreal.

The award includes a plaque and a $250 stipend to help with conference travel.

According to Robert C. Eklund of the School of Sport at the University of Stirling in Scotland, the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology editorial board is recognizing Buck for her “consistently constructive, outstanding, extensive and excellent contributions.”

Buck has been on the faculty at Chicago State since fall 2007. She teaches a variety of courses and is consistently rated superior in her teaching by students, colleagues and the department chair. She serves as director of the physical education graduate program and on the University Senate, as well as chairs the University Academic Concerns Committee and is the immediate past-president of the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Illinois College, two master’s degrees — one in exercise science and the other in sport b and performance — from Miami University in Ohio and her doctorate in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her primary research interest is the impact of exercise on cognitive development. She has published extensively in that realm.
