Italian experts to introduce psychological method to Vietnam

Italian psychological practitioners will introduce a treatment method known as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) during a conference to be held in Hanoi on July 13-15, announced the Italian Embassy.

Participants at the conference will be two highly-credited Italian psychological practitioners, Bruna Maccarrone and Anna Rita Verardo, and 36 Vietnamese psychologists from the Hanoi University of Public Health, the Central Mental Hospital and several provincial mental hospitals.

Verardo, from the Italian Association of Psychology, has over 20 years of experience in psychological research and treatment, particularly in youngsters and adolescents.

Regarding the EMRD method, Verardo said in modern society, due to increasing pressures of work and daily life, there are more and more people affected by psychological trauma arising from diverse experiences, such as family or workplace abuse, or stressful workload.

EMRD is an effective psychological therapy that can hasten the treatment of diseases caused by traumatic or distressing experiences, while processing distressing memories that can lead to disorders. Research has shown the treatment to be credible and effective.
