Terming the 21st century as the age of psychology and how it plays a pivotal role in all domains of life, Prof. G. P. Thakur said that health Psychology has become the need of the times given the changes in the current lifestyle of people.
Speaking at the inauguration of the First International Conference of Indian Academy of Health Psychology in collaboration with the Department of Psychology on the theme "Health Psychology: Emerging Trends and Challenges" at the University of Jammu here this morning, the Chief Guest Prof G P Thakur, former President Indian Academy of Applied Psychology, Indian Association of School Psychology highlighted the significance of such events that address themselves to the issues of Health Psychology. He also lauded the role of ICSSR in maintaining a balanced approach towards all the subjects of social sciences and encouraging endeavors like the present .
Prof R D Sharma Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his Presidential Remarks lauded the progress of the Department and congratulated the organizing committee in its efforts to make an endeavor of such scale and execute it successfully. He praised the department for its practical, methodological and well structured approach to teaching and research.
Dr G S Saun, Member Secretary, ICSSR, New Delhi, spoke on the role of the ICSSR in promoting such platforms that provide a forum for multidisciplinary deliberations opening up possibilities of collaborative research. Prof N K Chadha, President, Indian Association of Positive Psychology, Delhi in his keynote address explicated the theme of the conference and highlighted the various aspects of Health Psychology. Prof Anand Kumar, President of Indian Association of Health Psychology, spoke on the contribution of IAHP in the promotion of health psychology at the interface of the academia and general public. Earlier in her welcome address, Prof Arti Bakshi, Head Department of Psychology and Director, ICIAHP-2015, formally welcomed all the dignitaries, guests and delegates.
Highlighting the achievements of the department, Prof. Bakshi informed that in a short span of its coming into existence 3 projects have been completed, produced over 13 doctoral scholars and around 15 NET/JRFs and around 90 research papers by the faculty in the last five years.
Dr Chandra Shekhar, Organizing Secretary, ICIAHP-2015, presented the Vote of Thanks and Dr. Sarita Sood, Co-Organizing Secretary conducted the proceedings of the programme.
