Wednesday, May 21, 2014 - Lahore—An international conference on ‘Social Psychology’ Tuesday began at the Gov-ernment College University, Lahore, under the auspices of Psychology Department and Higher Education Commission, to deliberate upon sensitive issues like divorce, family and ethnic conflicts, financial burdens, altruism, regional identity, and experiences of infertile women.

As many as 150 eminent scholars including eminent American psy-chologist Dr Richard Oliver and Dr Aneeq Ahmed from Henderson State University, USA were participating in the two–day international conference which was spread over five scientific sessions.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said human behaviour was the most complex phenomena in the world, and it became more complex when humans inter-acted and entered in social relationships. However, he said he always considered psy-chologists as reformers of the society and it was their responsibility to propagate wisdom.

He directed the organizing committee to publish the recommendations of the conference, so that they could be used for common good. He also termed the conference an opportu-nity for young scholars to interact with well-known psychologists and learn from their knowledge and experiences.

Dr Syeda Salma Hasan said that about 67 research papers would be presented at the con-ference and they would help them to understand various complex social issues.

Dr Iffat Batool said for an ideal society, it was necessary for people to have an internal sense of responsibility for the reforms of thought, for the promotions of high principles of morality, for the establishment of good relationship among members of the society and for elimination of every sort of discrimination.

Later, eminent psychologist Dr Aneeq Ahmed gave lecture on topic “from brain elements to social wholes”, and gave different examples to explain how a human brain could be measured.
