I grew up in: Monroeton and Towanda, Bradford County
I now live in: Exeter Township
Family: Husband, John; sons, Nick, a student at Penn State Berks; and Nathan, a student at Berks Catholic High School.
Education: Towanda Senior High School; Bloomsburg University, bachelor's in psychology; Alfred University, master's in psychology; and Kutztown University, elementary guidance certification.
How I spend my free time: I love to read! I'm currently in the midst of the "Hunger Games" series, which was recommended by some of my students. I also enjoy music. I sing in the Voices in Praise choir at St. Catherine's and help with our school singers and ringers groups. I listen to a variety of music genres, from Pink to the Beatles to classical music. Just no country and no rap!
Teacher who inspired me: The teacher who inspired me the most was Mrs. Smith, my sixth-grade English teacher and later my organ teacher. She helped guide my musical path and reinforced my love of our language and reading. She also instilled in me the importance of setting goals and working toward them. Perhaps most importantly, she demonstrated genuine care and concern for her students and encouraged us to be confident students who truly enjoyed learning.
Funniest classroom moment: Young children often do and say things that are hilarious without intending to be funny. I wish I had recorded all of those funny incidents. Most recently, in the middle of a lesson, a kindergarten student gave me a tissue, exclaiming, "Here's a tissue, Mrs. Demangone, just in case you have a boogie."
If I weren't an educator, I'd be: I would be a children's librarian because of my love of reading! I often use books in counseling and classroom guidance.
You might not know: As a high school junior, I was able to meet President Jimmy Carter at a special reception at the White House. I even got to shake his hand! My students may be surprised to know that I love scary movies!
