IJT warned over locking of home

LAHORE - The Punjab University spokesman on Saturday strongly condemned the Islami Jamiat Talaba for detaining the Superintendent of Hostel No. 1, Assistant Prof Dr. Munawar Sabir.
The condemnation was issued in context of an incident at the hostel when Dr. Munawar Sabir locked the rooms of illegal occupants the previous night. In reaction, some activists of the IJT locked the house of the hostel superintendent.
The Punjab Universityspokesman said that the PU administration would take disciplinary action against the illegal boarders and the administration would not be blackmailed by anyone. The Punjab University spokesman said that some criminals were operating in the ranks of the IJT and warned it to stop backing the culprits.
The Punjab University spokesman sadded the administration would not allow such elements to disturb the university’s peaceful academic environment and disciplinary action would be against the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the Executive Council of the Punjab University Teachers Front was held on Saturday, which was attended by members of the syndicate.
The participants denounced the incident of illegally detaining Dr Munawar Sabir and expressed solidarity with him.
They also asked the Punjab government to order a police operation to the oust rogue elements so that students could continue their studies in peaceful academic atmosphere.
Members of the PUTF demanded of the university administration to initiate legal action against the goons.
Lecture: The Punjab University’s Centre for Clinical Psychology arranged a lecture on “Dietary Omerag-3 Fatty Acids in the Brain”, on Saturday.
The lecture was addressed by renowned neuroscientist from University of Wisconsin, USA, Dr. Aneeq Ahmad Khan.
CCP Director Prof Dr. Rukhsana Kausar, Pakistan Association of Clinical Psychologists President Dr. Nashi Khan, faculty members, clinical psychologists and a large number of students attended the lecture.
PGD FORMS: The Government College University’s Political Science Department today, extended the date for submission of admission forms for the one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Pakistan Affairs until Feb 7, 2012.
 The Government College University’s Political Science Department Chairperson Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt said that there is great dearth of opportunities of quality higher education for students with two-year graduation degrees; the GCU has introduced the diploma as evening programme to provide opportunities to such students to enhance qualification.
Dr. Khalid Butt said the course would be taught in three classes per week to facilitate the students, adding that his department would also introduce more post-graduate programmes.
