Every colour has a symbolic meaning that helps in studying human behaviour. Last week the paintings of Pijush Kanti Bera were on view in the Capital at Triveni Kala Sangam with the theme “Color Psychology: The Emotional Effect of Colors”.

Colour psychology is the study of colour as a determinant of human behaviour.

“The colour of psychology is based on the mental and emotional effects colours have on sighted people in all facets of life,” says the artist who holds a masters degree in visual arts from Ambedkar University Agra.

Depicting the moods of an individual through his paintings, the artist has tried to explore the effects of colours on human psychology. The metro city culture, where one has everything except time, has been beautifully depicted through the variations of colour.

Piyush categorises colours into two and says that warm colours like red, yellow and orange spark a variety of emotions, ranging from comfort to anger. The cool ones like blue and green animate calmness and sadness.

And it is these elements of sadness that he has depicted in his painting “Metro Life”. In “The Lord of Truth”, the artist has undertaken the voyage in search of truth through the effects of colours. The world is full of images and every eye perceives that image in an individual way. The artist has used his creativity to represent reality in his own way.

“While painting realistic images I use colours which do not go according with reality. My colour patches reveal a separate environment of dedication towards reality,” says the artist.
