HIGH POINT, N.C., March 14, 2014 – Members of High Point University’s Psi Chi, the International Honors Society in Psychology, and psychology department faculty members attended the annual Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) conference held in Austin, Texas. The event, held annually, brings together thousands of students and faculty from across the nation to discuss research advancements in the field of social and personality psychology.

HPU students who attended this year’s SPSP conference included members of the Psi Chi psychology honors society Grace Woodbury, Ashlee Branch, Michelle Baity, Krystle Grygo, Samantha Hesse, Cameron Griffin, Rachel Gilroy and Tatiana Kresefsky. While there, they participated in research symposiums, poster sessions and mentorship luncheons.

“Attending the conference was an amazing experience,” says Baity, a junior and Psi Chi President. “The opportunities to network were above and beyond my expectations, and I made many connections with esteemed psychologists that I would never have had the opportunity to make elsewhere. The talks were also interesting and introduced me to insight in the field of psychology that I would never have seen until graduate school. I am honored and grateful to have had this opportunity.”

“The opportunity to attend a national conference helps our students understand what it is like to be a psychologist,” says Dr. Sadie Leder Elder, assistant professor of psychology. “Furthermore, this trip gives our students the chance to gain first-hand experience on how to present their research findings, as well as make important networking connections with scholars in the field of psychology.”
