Housatonic to host psychology conferences

Housatonic Community College will host two psychology conferences in Beacon Hall on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19.

The college will host the 19th annual meeting of the Northeast Conference for Teachers of Psychology on Friday and the 53rd annual meeting of the New England Psychological Association on Satuday. A NEPA dinner will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The dinner speaker will be Dr. Daniel Schacter of Harvard University, who will update the current understanding of the seven types of memory “errors” he has explored. He will give special attention to the phenomenon of absent mindedness.

Saturday’s roster of speakers includes Dr. Kelly Brownell of Yale University, an expert in nutrition, and Dr. Kevin Pelphrey of Yale, a specialist in autism. Brownell will address the question, “Does Psychology Have a Role in Changing the American Diet,” while Dr. Pelphrey will discuss his work with autistic children using neuroimaging.
