“I really like her, but I just can’t talk to her!” (Frustrated cry of the lovelorn lad.)

Everyone knows a young man who women would love, if only he could speak to them without looking like a fox’s next meal. Now psychology trainers Uncommon Knowledge have created a free research-based eBook of tips in time for Valentine’s to help the river of love flow free.

How many perfect relationships are going to waste because these poor guys can’t hold it together in the wake of the hormonal surge caused by being near a woman they like? Or they are so 'nice' that women write them off as a potential mate but, crushingly, want to keep them as a good friend.

Luckily, science now knows what attracts women to men, and it’s not that surprising: Things like confidence, humor, ability to remain calm in stressful situations (which is why a terrified man never gets the girl); they all help a lady feel that a man is a potential partner.

But what can those unlucky fellows do if their legs start to shake at the very thought of walking up to a woman and starting a conversation? Knowing what to do is one thing, doing it is something very different indeed, especially when your stress hormones seem to have the opposite agenda.

Well there are a few key things that are easily implemented:

1.    Adopt a confident posture. Like many animals, men who are confident in approaching a mate push out their chest and put their head back. Quite the opposite of the cowed, curled posture of a frightened rabbit.

2.    Relax. Really relax, don’t just try and pretend (she’ll know). This can be achieved by learning breathing techniques or self hypnosis. Or, diving in before your brain has a chance to work out what’s going on (that’s a risky one though, if 10 seconds into the conversation your mind decides this is essentially a high threat situation and helpfully provides you with a bucket of adrenaline.)

3.    Expect a good reception. Research has shown that social anxiety reduces markedly when anxiety sufferers imagine the object of their attention responding positively with laughter and eye contact.

And finally, up and coming Romeos can get the free eBook from Uncommon Knowledge – How to be more confident approaching women. A quick read, it might just make the difference between a lonely Valentines and the start of something exciting. Good luck guys!
