GV professor to speak at GRCC Psychology Series Nov. 17

By Kailey Coen – Collegiate Staff

A Grand Valley State University professor  will be speaking Tuesday about how a support system impacts mental health as part of the Grand Rapids Community College Psychology Series.

“We chose Brian Lakey because he’s talking about an interesting topic that’s a very broad area in psychology for students, said Frank Conner, head of the Psychology department.

Lakey will be talking about the findings on how an individual’s support network affects his or her well being. Specifically, he will cover how a low support system has been linked to a variety of mental disorders.

“These are the kind of things you would get at a university like Grand Valley or Michigan State, and we want students here at GRCC to get the same experience,” Conner said.

The free presentation will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in room 168 of Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center.
