Glenbard to host final Parent Series event on ‘psychology of success’

GLEN ELLYN – This year's Glenbard Parent Series will conclude Thursday with a talk by Carol Dweck, best-selling author of "Mindset: The Psychology of Success."

The topic of the event is "Mindset: Why and How People Succeed and How to Foster Success." It will be presented at noon in the Glenbard South auditorium, 23W200 Butterfield Rd. in Glen Ellyn, and at 7 p.m. at Glenbard West, 670 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

One of Dweck's teachings include that people’s theories about intelligence have a profound influence on their motivation to learn. Someone with a growth mindset believes intelligence can be developed and is more likely to want to learn and embrace challenges. However, a person with a fixed mindset believes that intelligence is static and is more concerned with looking smart than learning and growing.

Dweck’s work has impacted those in education and beyond.

The Glenbard Parent Series is sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, an affiliate of the Lillian and Larry Goodman Foundation, and in partnership with the Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE).

The afternoon workshop is free to Glenbard District 87 and its feeder elementary districts. Participants outside of these districts may attend the noon event at a cost of $80 and must register by emailing nkozin@casedupage.com. The evening program is free and open to all and requires no registration.

For more information, contact Gilda Ross, Glenbard District 87 student and community projects coordinator, at 630-942-7573 or gilda_ross@glenbard.org.
