Rhea Owens

Rhea Owens is an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She joined UWPS in 2012.

Question: What are your key job responsibilities?

Answer: My key responsibilities include teaching four psychology courses each semester, engaging in scholarship (research), and providing service to UWSP and the larger psychology community. I also conduct psychological evaluations for children and their families in the community.

Q: What do you like best about your job?

A: In the classroom, I enjoy helping students directly apply theories and psychological principles to case examples and real-life scenarios. Outside of the classroom, I most enjoy mentoring students related to their career development and working with a team of students on research projects in counseling and positive psychology.

Q: What are highlights of your career so far?

A: Highlights of my career so far include winning the UWSP Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014, being selected as a Wisconsin Teaching Fellow through the UW System's Office of Professional and Instructional Development, and serving as chair of the Section on Positive Psychology of the American Psychological Association.

Q: What would people be surprised to know about you?

A: People might be surprised to learn that I graduated from UWSP with a bachelor's degree in psychology. During my time as an undergraduate student, I enjoyed being part of the Student Government Association, Residence Hall Association and the track team.

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

A: When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and puppy, running, photography (though I'm not very good), cooking, going to concerts and craft projects.
