Former Deer Park ISD superintendent dies

Funeral services will be held Monday for retired Deer Park ISD Superintendent Dr. Sebron B. Williams, 86, who died Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Pasadena.

He served as head of the Deer Park Independent School District for nearly 15 years and was later dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Houston Baptist University.

A World War II veteran, he served in the Pacific Theatre in Leyte and Okinawa, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, plus the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star.

He was a graduate of North Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in government, his master’s degree in education and his doctorate of Education in Psychology Counseling and Guidance.

He also studied at the University of Texas at Austin, Los Angeles State in California, East Texas Baptist in Marshall, East Texas State in Commerce and the University of Houston and taught at Laredo Junior College, where he also served as academic dean and registrar.

He was a past president of the Texas State Teacher’s Association District IV and the Midland County Teacher’s Association and many professional organizations.

His career as an educator began as a first grade teacher. Over the years he worked as both an elementary and secondary teacher, counselor, licensed psychologist, director of counseling services, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Crystal Williams; grandchildren, Stephen Williams and Kristen Williams and her husband, Marcus Villalovos; and a great granddaughter, Madisyn, all of Deer Park.

A visitation is planned from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena. Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at Deer Park First Baptist Church with interment following at Meditation Estates of Grand View Cemetery.
