HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Dr. Boyce Watkins, a nationally known expert in financial psychology, educational motivation and black social commentary, will deliver the address for Monday's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast.
Watkins, who holds a master's in mathematical statistics and a doctorate from Ohio State university in finance, is the author of several books, including "What if George Bush Were a Black Man?" a statement on social and racial inequality.
Watkins, who is a professor at Syracuse University, is also national director of the Step Up and Go to College Program to give inner-city youth the motivation and tools to succeed in college.
In addition to Watkins, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley and other local and state leaders will speak, and essay contest winners will be recognized.
The annual breakfast, which will be Monday morning in the Von Braun Center's North Hall, has been sold out for a month. It has been sponsored for 27 years by the Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
