Expert Advice To Chart Your Future

My daughter has just completed her BA in Journalism and Psychology. She is very interested in pursuing a career in journalism. What is the best option for her?

I would recommend that she continue her studies and pursue a Master’s in Mass Communication or Advertising. She can apply to institutions such as Asian College of Journalism, SIMC-Pune or Bangalore and build her expertise in the area of journalism. She can then seek careers in print, television or other mass media. It would be most useful if she does some short term courses in public speaking, speed reading, business communication and relevant areas.

I have cleared Class X (ICSE) and I’m not sure if I should opt for CBSE or state board. Also, I wish to become a doctor, for which I would have to clear the entrance exam. If I don’t qualify, I would like to become an IES (Indian Economic Service) officer. Should I opt for Science or Commerce stream?

Either CBSE or state board is fine. You need to prepare seriously for your medical entrance exams. You may also join a coaching class to help you crack the entrance tests effectively. You may also explore areas such as Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Pure Sciences as a back up for Medicine. However, to attempt the IES, I would recommend the Commerce stream for you.
