Editor – Online Publication on Psychology and Faith

A soon-to-be launched online publication that will cover the intersection of faith and psychology seeks a part-time editor to direct its editorial content. The position will require 20 hours per week, and is work from home.

The publication will feature reporting, commentary and advice on issues, trends and topics in mental health, written from a Catholic/Christian perspective, and aimed at a general, faith-oriented audience.

Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for setting the editorial agenda for the publication and directing all content creation (in consultation with a small advisory board of experts).

The editor will produce content for the site, with the aid of a part-time assistant. They will also manage a network of bloggers and free-lancers, and deal with transcription and stock photo services. The editor will also participate in the development of long-term business and audience growth strategies.

The position will require networking with practitioners, academics, clergy, lay ministers, and others in the mental health field, and within the religious community.

The editor’s daily tasks will involve interviewing newsmakers and experts, writing blog posts, and assigning and light editing of posts written by free-lancers and bloggers. Additional duties will include curating links to news articles, videos and podcasts; planning and commissioning occasional white papers; selecting and posting photos, and staying abreast of industry news and trends.

Qualifications

The candidate must be committed to Catholic doctrine and moral teachings, and possess a solid understanding of current faith-based positions on bioethics, marriage, sexuality and other issues. They should also have a general knowledge of psychiatric and psychological concepts and practices, as well as mental health disorders and treatments. Advanced knowledge of the mental health field is a major plus.

The candidate must have at least 3 years of professional experience writing for print or online publications. Experience writing about Catholic and/or mental health topics is preferred. Writing samples will be required.

The candidate must be an excellent communicator and problem solver, able to balance multiple projects and deadlines, and interact effectively with publishing functions such as IT, graphic design, marketing and sales.

A bachelor’s degree is required. An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work is preferred.

Familiarity with WordPress, Photoshop, basic HTML/CSS, and digital technology, is a plus.

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience. Travel and other expenses will be reimbursed.
