Aylesbury United boss Tony Joyce says a dose of reverse psychology can help cure his side’s homesickness when they play “away” at landlords Leighton Town today (Saturday).

The Ducks made it through to the next round of the FA Trophy with a 4-2 win over Faversham Town last Sunday and host Ramsgate on October 19.

Joyce said it was nice to be through and hopes it will help build confidence for the league matches.

He said: “I am glad we have another home tie as it is a competition we would like to progress in as far as possible.”

United are currently experiencing a busy spell of games with four matches in eight days.

The “away” match against landlords Leighton (3pm kick-off) has been dubbed a ‘friendly derby’ by Joyce as the club currently groundshare with their “hosts.”

Joyce said he was looking forward to the game, which he feels would inevitably have an ‘extra edge’.

He said: “We have been better away than at home this season so a bit of reverse psychology could actually help us!

“The only differences from a normal home game will be in which dressing room and dugout we have.

“It will be like a friendly derby so it is a difficult game to try and predict.”

United travel to Hemel Hempstead Town on Monday night (7.45pm kick-off).
