Dover-Eyota students, teachers like the potential of laptops – Post

EYOTA — Dover-Eyota High School senior Brandon Turner gave a presentation in front of his psychology class that a four-star general might envy.

Instead of standing in front of the class and reading from a paper, Turner, 17, mixed YouTube videos with a PowerPoint presentation that he projected on a large smartboard. It was a performance that would have been impossible last year, before the advent of the high school's one-to-one laptop program.

"I think (laptops) can be distracting for people if they don't use them right," Turner said afterward. "But if you use it right during class, it makes taking notes a lot faster, and it makes research in classes a lot easier."

Dover-Eyota is the latest school to embrace netbooks, equipping all its sophomores, juniors and seniors with them this fall. Read the full story in Friday's print edition.
