A three-year Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, read by Valentina Bezzina at Teesside University, UK, was carried out following the award of a Steps Scholarship which was part-financed by the EU – European Social Fund (ESF) under Operational Programme II – Cohesion Policy 2007-2013, Empowering People for More Jobs and a better Quality of Life.

This taught doctorate course equipped Ms Bezzina with training, tools and experience in counselling psychology.

The research, entitled Therapists’ experiences of using computerised therapy in practice: Can a computer replace the therapist? delves into the possibility of computerised therapy being an additional tool in psychotherapy.

Proven to be an effective option and a good adjunct to face-to-face therapy, there has been little research into how computerised therapy could serve as an additional tool.
