Department: Office for Institutional Advancement

Job Purpose: Responsible for expanding the base of financial support for the programs of the Adler School of Professional Psychology through a broad-based annual giving program.

Principal Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning
Develop, with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (Vice President), and implement a written master strategic plan of action with objectives, branding, timelines, and evaluation plans for all phases of annual individual giving that includes the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual gifts from alumni and non-alumni friends, faculty, and staff of the Adler School, including personal solicitations, telemarketing, and direct mail and electronic appeals.

Prospect Acquisition and Development
Work closely with major gifts, corporate and foundation, and alumni relations staff to acquire new prospects through new and existing relationships with the Adler School.

Gift Development
Work with the Vice President to establish goals for participation in and dollars raised through Annual Level Giving of $1000 and above. The Director will assist with the development and maintenance of relationships with top donors, volunteers and Adler staff. He/She is expected to utilize approximately 50% of his/her time generating 8-10 personal visits per month.

Campaign Development
Provide support to capital campaign initiatives through the identification and qualification of campaign prospects. It is a principal goal of the Individual Giving Program to identify major gift prospects from the annual giving constituency and to begin to introduce major and planned giving concepts.

Program Management
Work closely with the Manager of Advancement Services to track, analyze, and monitor all annual giving activities and benchmarks, as well as monitoring call reports, gift acknowledgements and other data important for maintenance of donor/prospect records. The Director ensures the timely submission of annual giving progress reports to the Vice President as they relate to program goals and objectives; represents annual giving issues and promotes community awareness and annual support. The Director prepares, with the assistance of the Vice President and the Office of Marketing and Communications, written communications including letters, brochures and other materials necessary for all annual giving programs, including electronic messaging. The Director researches and incorporates annual giving “best practices” into the Adler School annual giving strategies.

Other Duties:

The Director will undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned and appropriate by the Vice President, recognizing that the Office for Institutional Advancement is an integrated office requiring occasional participation in assignments that do not fall under this specific job description. This includes, but is not limited to: planning development and alumni events; participating in presidential briefings, committee meetings, and volunteer activities; and developing a working knowledge of the School in general and funding priorities specifically.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience/Training Certifications/Licenses:

A bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred; 5-7 years of professional development experience, preferably in higher education annual giving

Should demonstrate a working knowledge of major giving and its relationship to campaign development, annual giving, alumni relations, volunteer management and development-related information technology, preferably Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge

Practical knowledge of annual giving operations and what it takes to expand donor participation and giving

Successful track record in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of annual level leadership gifts

Proficient in a variety of word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software applications; strong analytical skills required

Exceptional organizational and communication skills, particularly, writing and editing skills in order to develop appeal letters, professional reports, strategic plans, and related correspondence

Motivated and disciplined with strong strategic and tactical management skills and an unflagging commitment to purpose

Results-oriented with ability to respond to multiple priorities

Demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, warmly develops relationships with diverse constituencies, and simultaneously employs keen judgment

Strong, collaborative, energetic individual with seasoned fundraising skills

Works well in a team setting and interacts well with all types of people, including faculty, staff, internal/external program staff alike, while maintaining a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances
