Developmental psychology on air

Wednesday (16 April) sees the latest programme in the Psychology FM series broadcast by the Manchester radio station All FM.

These broadcasts have been put together, with the help of a public engagement grant from the British Psychological Society, by Professor Rebecca Lawthom from Manchester Metropolitan University and PhD student Michael Richards.

The shows chart the evolution of psychology while shedding light on its modern incarnations. They aim to change people’s perceptions of men and women with disabilities as the presenters all have learning difficulties.

Professor Lawthom said: “We want to explain what, exactly, psychology is and how and what we mean about the different branches of psychology – educational psychology, forensic psychology, neuropsychology and so on.

“The aim is to get people who aren’t familiar with psychology to find out a little bit more about it, to make it accessible and to make it relevant.”

Wednesday’s broadcast will look at developmental psychology.
