As per a study published in the journal Psychological Science, daily response of a person towards day-to-day stress is able to reflect the mental status in his later life.
The study was carried out by Susan Charles, professor of psychology social behavior at UC Irvine. Charles said that main objective of the study was to know the effect of everyday tensions on a person.
Charles continued by saying that they did not assume that whether everyday tensions will affect a person negatively or will benefit them. In order to know about the bent of the study, they gathered the data from two surveys that were carried out in the US.
"How we manage daily emotions matters to our overall mental health. We're so focused on long-term goals that we don't see the importance of regulating our emotions", said Charles. In total, 711 men and women aged between 25 and 74 were assessed through the studies.
After assessing the surveys, Charles said that they reached at a conclusion that everyday stress can harm mental health in later years of life. This has made Charles to recommend a change in the thinking process of a person. It would be better if people start taking things in a positive manner.
